A little girl had a dream to write music and play the oboe.........

She played first oboe in the Leicestershire Schools' Junior Orchestra at 9 years old.....
She attended the Aberdeen International Youth Festival and playing Varese's "Octandre" and playing Cor Anglais for the first time helped her decide that Music College was the next step.....

At the Birmingham Conservatoire she had some amazing experiences both as a composer and oboist....
and after completing her studies at the RNCM began an international career as orchestral oboist, soloist and
playing chamber music. She met Bernd Holz and through him learnt all about reed making.....

she spent 10 years in Dessau, Germany playing with the Anhaltische Philharmonie....

and is now principal oboist with Sinfonia Viva and Principal Cor Anglais with Bath Phil.

"Maddy is a fabulous oboist and teacher. She is superb at assisting with 'everything oboe' from technique and artistry, to reedmaking and instrument choosing. She is patient and insightful, tailoring her lessons to the needs and personality of each pupil. She has transformed my playing, and I now make all my own reeds.
Maddy is also an excellent tutor for small chamber groups, making the days fun, educational and immensely rewarding."

"Maddy is wonderful oboe teacher - I have been having lessons with her (as an adult/diploma level) for about 4 years (once every 2 to 3 weeks), and she has been a great help to improving my playing and my understanding of the music. She is a brilliant oboe player herself, and can demonstrate very clearly what I need to do. She is very good, both on working on the minute technical details of how to produce a piece of music to the standard that I am trying to achieve, but also on the overview and structure of the piece as a whole. She is also excellent at coaching chamber music groups, and I like playing on the reeds she makes. Every lesson has been enjoyable and helpful, and I recommend Maddy very highly."
Maddy is not only a talented player and composer but a fantastic teacher. She has the ability to work through the musical difficulties and anxieties of her pupils, regardless of their age or ability. A skilled communicator, clear and precise, her patience seems endless. Lessons are relaxed and enjoyable, although always working towards better understanding and improvement. A gem.

Maddy is a superb oboe teacher and our son absolutely loves her lessons. She adapts her teaching and explains clearly so that he always knows what he needs to do to improve. From the very beginning, she has instilled great technique so that, as Tom has progressed, he has found the more challenging repertoire accessible. More importantly, she’s great fun!"

I’m so glad I found Maddy! Working with her has completely changed my playing and approach to all things oboe. She is patient and thorough, and flexible to accommodate different ways of developing as a musician and oboist.
We found Maddy via the musicteachers.co.uk website and have been thrilled with the choice that we made. From the very first lesson it was obvious that my daughter was going to get on well with Maddy. She has helped my daughter to increase her confidence and enthusiasm for playing. Before we switched over to Maddy my daughter had been considering giving up playing the oboe because she had not been getting on with her previous teacher. She is now so glad that she didn’t stop because Maddy has helped her to remember why she loves playing. In the initial lesson, Maddy listened carefully to what we said about what my daughter finds easy and difficult about learning an instrument and playing music in general. She also listened carefully to how she played and started to give advice on breathing techniques. Most importantly she gave lots of praise for what was already being achieved. After each lesson my daughter comes out enthused and she is once again enjoying doing her practice at home. This is because she is being taught how to get the best out of her oboe and her over-all playing. My daughter has always found musical timing difficult to master and Maddy knows this, so she teaches her techniques to help her to get it right. Also, if a standard fingering for a note does not give the correct tone on her oboe then Maddy works with my daughter to find an alternative which does work. She has also chosen pieces for my daughter to learn which she enjoys playing and obviously this makes the whole experience much more pleasurable. We have also been very encouraged by reports from the leaders of the orchestras that my daughter is in. They have reported that her confidence and playing has improved significantly since she started her lessons with Maddy. It is obvious that Maddy enjoys teaching and working with students, helping them to achieve the best standard that they can. We are very pleased that we chose Maddy Aldis-Evans and would highly recommend her to others.
